We collect and preserve knowledge in all its formats to serve people like you now and for generations to come.

Music Library

We are the largest music research collection in Canada and among the top 3 academic library systems in North America.

  • Nearly 200,000 sound recordings ranging from wax cylinder to Blu-ray, (special catalogues and finding aids available for vinyl and older formats)
  • Extensive archival collections documenting the creative activities of composers & music clubs

Vinyl LPs

The University of Toronto Music Library maintains an LP and 78rpm collection of  substantial proportions. The LP collection contains well over 100,000 items, with strengths in European labels focussing on Classical Music and Opera. The LP / vinyl discs catalogued since 1995 are represented in our online database. Records catalogued before that are represented in the card catalogue. The card catalogue is being digitized and added to the online catalogue on a continuing basis.
